Human IL17cDNA encodes a 155 amino acid （aa）residue precursor protein with a 19 amino acid residue signal peptide that is cleaved to yield the 136 aa residue mature IL17containing one potential Nlinkedglycosylation site. Both recombinant and natural IL17have been shown to exist as disulfidelinkedhomodimers. At the amino acid level, human IL17shows 72% and63% sequence identity with herpesvirus and rat IL17,respectively. An IL17specific mouse cell surface receptor （IL17R） has been cloned. While the expression ofIL17mRNA is restricted to activated T cells, the expression of mIL17R mRNA has been detected in virtually all cells and tissues tested. IL17exhibits multiplebiological activities on a variety of cells including the induction of IL6and IL8production in fibroblasts, the enhancement of surface expression of ICAM1infibroblasts, activation of NFκBand costimulation of T cell proliferation.
